Visit Notre Dame Cathedral and the
impressive French-style Post Office. Continue to the Reunification Palace. It
was towards this building ¡V then known as the Independence Palace or
Presidential Palace, that the first Communist tanks in Saigon rushed on the
morning of 30 April, 1975. Once the symbol of the South Vietnamese government,
the building is preserved almost as it was on that April day when the Republic
of Vietnam, which hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese and 58,183 Americans had
died trying to save, ceased to exist.
Next visit the War Remnants Museum, previously known as the Museum of
Chinese and American War Crimes. This has become the most popular museum with
Western tourists and few museums in the world so aptly illustrate that warfare
is horribly brutal and that many of the victims are civilians. Continue to
Cholon (China Town). Cholon rose to prominence after Chinese merchants began
settling there in 1778 and, despite the mass migrations after 1975, still
constitutes the largest ethnic-Chinese community in Vietnam. Walk through the
colourful and ancient thoroughfare, Le Cong Kieu.
Return to the airport for your onward flight to
Australia.

Proceed to downtown Ho Chi Minh for lunch at an
attractive Vietnamese style restaurant.
After lunch, drive to the town of Cu Chi . The
tunnel network became legendary during the 1960¡¦s for its role in facilitating
Viet Cong (VC) control a large rural area. At its height, the tunnel system stretched from Ho chi
Minh to the Cambodian border and there were over
250 km of tunnels in the
CuChi district alone.
Return to Ho Chi Minh and visit Notre Dame
