Broken Hill and The Outback.

Day 1                         Depart Sydney by air

                                    Arrive Broken Hill

                                    Met on arrival and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon take a short city sightseeing tour.

Day 2                                    Depart Broken Hill with your driver /guide in an air-conditioned four-wheel drive vehicle. Travel to the Mootwingee National Park to explore its history and grandeur with Aboriginal art and haunting memories. The wildlife in and around Mootwingee is spectacular; big red kangaroos, emus, eagles, cuckaburrows and much more.

 After a picnic lunch continue to the remote White Cliffs Opal Field ¡V the oldest commercial opal field in Australia! Tonight, dinner will be served by the friendly staff at the famous Underground Dug Out Motel, which is also your accommodation for the night.

Day 3                         Spend the morning inspecting this extraordinary outback settlement. Learn how and why the community lives underground. Visit underground galleries and perhaps purchase one of the magnificent local opal products. Before lunch see the ¡§Old Field¡¨ where, in search for ¡§colour¡¨, over 50,000 holes have been dug since the 1890¡¦s. Return to Broken Hill for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 4                         Leaving Broken Hill, travel to the Kinchega National Park with its spectacular Menindee Lakes. The surface area of these lakes is seven times greater than that of Sydney Harbour! Taking the ¡¥scenic drive¡¦, follow the mighty Darling River where native bird and animal life abound among the enormous river red gums. After lunch visit the small outback township of Menindee, the last stop for Burke and Wills (early explorers) on their fateful journey into the unknown. Remain on in Menindee overnight to enjoy the peace and serenity of the outback.

 

 Day 5                                    After breakfast proceed to the Mungo National Park via Pooncarie, an old river port along the Darling River. Continue toward the World Heritage area of the ancient Willandra Lakes, and arrive at Mungo National Park with its amazing ¡§Wall of China¡¨ and spectacular wildlife. This almost lunar landscape will inspire the photographer and enchant the nature lover. In the afternoon drive to Mildura, for overnight.

Day 6                         Depart Mildura by air.
