The  ¡§Palace  on  wheels¡¨,  through  India

 

Welcome aboard the legendary "Palace on Wheels", a week-long cruise recreating the ambiance of the glorious past through the heart of Rajasthan.  Feeling like royalty on board this centrally air-conditioned and completely self-sufficient train.

There are four coupes in each coach, with wall-to-wall carpeting, a lounge car with a well-stocked bar, the Maharaja and Maharanee serving continental, Indian and Rajasthani cuisine.  All of which make your journey a memorable experience.

 

Day 1 Wednesday

                                   The Train prior to departure.

Join the "Palace on Wheels" in Delhi and enjoy dinner on board.  Departure at  2245 hours.

 

Day 2 Thursday

                       The Red Fort at Jaipur.

Arrive in Jaipur at 0850 hours.  You will be greeted by caparisoned elephants and strains of the shenai.... Welcome to the pink city of Jaipur.  Lunch at Rambagh Palace.  Discover Hawa Mahal,Nahargarh Fort, Amber Fort silent sentinels of a glorious era.  Depart Jaipur at 2210 hours.

 

Day 3 Friday

Arrive Chittogarh at 0730 hours. Images of a love and valor; scars of battles lost and won... thrice besieged, Chittorgarh is all this and more.  Moving  legends of honour and pride will echo in your mind as you proceed to Udaipur.

The city of lakes, palaces and gardens, temples and forts ...Udaipur.

Lunch at the Lake Palace Hotel, the former summer residence of the Prince's of Mewar.  Enjoy the tranquillity of Lake Pichola ... Visit the City Palace in all its ancient glory, the residence of the Maharajas of Udaipur.

Depart Udaipur at 2200 hours

 

Day 4  Saturday

               The Dining car.

Arrive Sawai Madhopur at 0630 hours.

Welcome to verdant Sawai Madhopur and the beautiful 10th century fort of Ranthambhor.  Surrounded by the Ranthambhor National Park, a Project Tiger reserve, the imposing ramparts of the fort soar above...

they too have tales to tell!

Depart at 1230 hours.

 

Day 5 Sunday

Arrive Jaisalmer at 0900 hours.

Its sandstone fort of 99 bastions dominates the 12th century city of Jaisalmer.  Visit the exquisitely carved havelis and palaces with their latticed windows, balconies, cupolas and facades.  Experience the famed camel safaris and desert camps...and dine under the stars as the rhythm Rajasthani music drifts into the night.Depart at 2330 hours.

 

Day 6 Monday

      Jodhpur

Arrive Jodhpur at 0900 hours.

The Mehrangarh Fort is all-pervasive in this 15th Century City.  Visit this magnificent fort and Jaswant Thada, a royal cenotaph close by.  Lunch at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, the royal residence, a part of which is a hotel. Depart at 1545 hours.

 

Day 7 Tuesday

Arrive Bharatpur at 0715 hours. A wonderland for birds, visit the renowned Keoladeo Ghana National Park at Bharatpur, now a World Heritage site.  It is home to 300 species of birds, some flying in from as far as Siberia and China.

Continue to Agra for lunch at the Taj View. Proceed to one of the most beautiful monuments ever conceived, theTaj Mahal.  Built by the Mogul emperor Shah Jahan to commemorate eternal love for his queen, Mumtaz Mahal.  Breathtaking in its proportions and craftsmanship, it is captivating.  The timeless city of Agra offers you many more monuments and tombs, all exquisite in architectural skill and beauty. Departure at 2000 hours.

 

Day 8 Wednesday

Arrive Delhi at 0730 hours.  Breakfast on board the "Palace on Wheels" as you return to Delhi Cantonment Railway Station.
