Oman

   Sand Sea and Souqs

Lying on the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula and bordered by the turquoise of the Arabian Sea, lies the Sultanate of Oman. Only open to tourism since 1988 and with a thousand miles of untouched coastline, the Oman is a fascinating combination of clear blue waters, fertile wadis and harsh rugged mountain scenery. As a country it is ideally placed for week of winter sun, offering a blend of relaxation and luxury together with a fascinating historical backcloth of villages, forts and souqs. Although a Muslim state, it is very relaxed in its attitudes and the capital, Muscat, is spotlessly clean and offers a wide range of excellent restaurants and shopping.

Choose just to relax in one of Oman’s stunning hotels or take to the seas in search of whales, giant turtles, blue marlin or dolphins or dive into an unspoilt submarine world.  On land, take a hot air balloon trip across the desert or drive inland to explore pretty mountain villages, dramatic gorges, Bedouin camps, markets and souqs in the almost guaranteed sunshine.

The best known hotel is the Al Bustan, which sits in 200 acres of landscaped grounds. It boasts its own beach, four floodlit tennis courts, heated swimming pool, gym, squash courts and scuba diving. Alternatively, you can stay in the luxurious new Hyatt Regency Hotel with its spectacular décor and extensive range of facilities.
