New Zealand Highlights by Self-Drive Car or Motorhome

 

 

 

Day 1 Arrive Auckland 
  Take delivery of a self-drive car or motorhome on arrival.
  Hotel: NEW PRESIDENT / SKY LIMIT
   
Day 2 Enjoy a drive around this very attractive city, situated on a narrow isthmus between two
  harbours. Panoramic views can be seen from the summit of Mt. Eden or the summits of
  several other extinct volcanoes. A drive to the Eastern suburbs and the North Shore will
  provide views of the picturesque gulf (an aquatic playground) and the city’s beach
  suburbs.
   
Day 3 Leave Auckland via the Southern Motorway and cross the Bombay Hills before
  descending into the Waikato Valley, famous for its dairying. Pass through
  Ngaruawahia (home of the Maori Royal Family) and then on through Hamilton and Te
  Awamutu to Waitomo Caves where you can see the glow-worm grotto. In the afternoon
  you can re-trace your steps to Otorohanga where we suggest you visit the Kiwi House
  and then turn of Kihikihi and travel past the Arapuni hydro electric power station to
  Putaruru and then across the Mamaku Hills to Rotorua.

Day 4 Today is free for sightseeing in this thermal wonderland. We recommend you see a Maori
  concert, the Thermal Reserve and Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, the Government
  Gardens, St. Faith’s Church, the Agrodome Farming Display and Rainbow Springs Trout
  Pools. Have a swim in a thermal pool. There are many other attractions in this area.
   
Day 5 Surrender the self-drive car or motorhome at the airport.
  Depart Rotorua by air 
  Arrive Queenstown 
  Take delivery of a self-drive car or motorhome.
  Whilst in this beautiful region, you can drive to historic Arrowtown and then to Coronet
  Peak for panoramic views. There are steamer trips on the lake, scenic flights, trips  to
  Skippers Canyon, and vintage steam train excursions.

Day 6 A full day excursion to Milford Sound. Travel via Lake Te Anau, through he Beech
  forests of Eglinton Valley and the rugged Hollyford Valley and on to Milford Sound via
  the Homer Tunnel. A cruise, including lunch, can be taken  on the fiord before returning
  to Queenstown .
   
Day 7 Depart Queenstown for Mount Cook passing through the rugged Kawarua Gorge and
  over the Lindis Pass. From Omarama you will see examples of the massive hyro-electric
  power development, before arriving at Mt. Cook.

Day 8 Leave New Zealand ‘s highest mountain and drive past Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. Travel
  over Burkes Pass, through McKenzie Country and north along the Canterbury Plains to
  Christchurch.

Day 9 Surrender the self-drive car or motorhome at the airport.
  Depart Christchurch
