Mongolia
Mongolia is currently enjoying a cultural and religious renaissance, and this group tour combines the historical splendor of Mongolia’s first and most imposing Buddhist monastery, with the ancient capital of the great Emperor, Ghengis Khan and the beauty of the Khentii Mountains, reputedly his birthplace and burial ground.
North-east of Ulaanbaatar lies Khentii, arguably Mongolia’s most beautiful province with an inspiring landscape of pine and birch forests, crystal clear lakes and spectacular alpine scenery. In season, wild flowers carpet the meadows and rare wildlife includes mountain elk, bear, argali sheep and wolves. Travelling by road into the forested foothills you will make forays into the surrounding valleys on horseback or by yak-cart.
Leaving the mountains for the imperial city of Karakorum, from where Ghengis Khan launched his cavalry against Russia and China, you will visit the Erdenezuu and Shand Hiid monasteries before returning to Ulaanbaatar.
The July departure is slightly longer, and incorporates the Naadam Festival – a colourful 3-day holiday during which the three national sports of riding, wrestling and archery are celebrated with fervour.
We have a selection of group tours only for Mongolia and will be pleased to provide you with itineraries, departure dates and costs on request.
