Family Horse Trekking
This ride is a truly unique adventure. It captures the spirit of the Old
Australian way of life. At the end of the 35-40 km. day's ride, an historic
village pub comes into sight. These old bush pubs are a link to the past where
good company, a cold refreshing drink, a log fire and hearty country fare
await you in an old-world dining room. At the bar, after dinner, make friends
with the locals, and meet some interesting characters: shearers, stockmen,
graziers and miners. Sometimes a guitar is produced for some good old country
music. Eventually retire to bed to rest for the next day on the trail.
Your six day, 150km., Horse trek begins at Glenn Innes, New South Wales.
The homestead from which the ride is based, is set in 1200 acres of rugged
and
magnificent New England countryside, where you are introduced to your horse,
which will be matched to your skill and experience level. The horses range
from beginner’s mounts to lively mountain bred horses.
That night, at a
welcoming dinner, meet your fellow riders in a homely atmosphere. The tour
is a round trip including the historic country villages: Emmaville, population 350; Torrington, population 82; Deepwater, population 350 - each over 120 years old. In their
heyday they boasted much larger populations, living off mining, fossicking
and grazing enterprises (tin, topaz, emeralds, tungsten, bismuth, etc.). The
country traversed is spectacular with the scenery and countryside changing
dramatically almost hourly. Horses, riding equipment, guides, transfers, meals
and accommodation, for six days and six nights, are all included in the price.
