Graham has now decided to throw them out into the open for Concorde Travel clients.

MONGOLIA – Expedition to Central Mongolia 2012
August 16th to 30th 2012 on horseback and guided by renowned explorer Mr. Leo Murray.

Photographs taken during Leo’s 2009 Eastern Mongolia Expedition (All photographs are copyright)

Journey to a region of Mongolia renowned for its astounding natural scenery and expansive wide open spaces, as part of a trip which we believe has never before been offered by tour operators. Four of Mongolia’s national parks are located in Central Mongolia’s Arkhangai Province, the province we will be riding through. An abundance of thick forests, extensive meadows and wide rivers are all found in Arkhangai province. Central Mongolia includes a magnificent volcanic region. We will visit several extinct volcanoes and volcanic lakes. The spectacular Khangai Mountains, located in Central Mongolia, constitute the country’s largest mountain range (800km x 200km).
Wildlife found in the Khangai Mountains includes elk, musk and red deer, brown bear, wild boar and wolf. The locals have been living and existing on the dry steppe type countryside for generations, migrating with their animals to follow the food and fodder for themselves and the livestock.
Pass through and explore an area rich in archeological remains predating Genghis Khan, including ancient burial mounds and deer stones (referred to by herders as ‘our old stone men’) that date from the Bronze Age.
The locals are very friendly and enjoy the company of visitors. this unique vacation will give you the opportunity to see their mostly unchanged way of life and possibly see demonstrations of their horse-riding abilities which was the overriding factor in the success of Ghengis Khan and the Empire that he created which stretched from Europe to China.
Mongolia
Country of superlatives and contrasts, awesome space, magical light, expansive steppe grassland, desert, snow – capped mountains and glaciers.
Largest herd of horses in the world; one per person.

The route that will be followed has, we believe, never been offered before by a tour operator. The trip itinerary has been planned following an October 2009 reconnaissance carried out in Arkhangai Province by Helge Reitz, along with other tour leaders with years of expedition experience in Mongolia. Few foreigners have ever been on extended horseback riding expeditions in the region.
Experience Mongolia the way the locals do, on horseback
