The "Southern Spirit" Train Journey. 7 days 






A 6 day/ 5 night train journey from Brisbane, to Byron Bay, Port Macquarie, the Hunter Valley, Dubbo, The Grampians and finally to Adelaide. (or vice versa)


There is the option of Gold Service or Platinum Service.

Departure is on Saturday for both the Brisbane to Adelaide and Adelaide to Brisbane. There are 12 departures between November 2011 and February 2012, starting from Adelaide on 5th  November, Brisbane on 12th November, Adelaide on 19th November, Brisbane on 26th November, Adelaide on 3rd December, Brisbane on 10th December. NO SERVICE UNTIL 13 January. Adelaide on 14th January, Brisbane on 21st January, Adelaide on 28th January, Brisbane on 4th February, Adelaide on 11th February and Brisbane on 18th February.






Day 1  Friday                Brisbane – Byron Bay


Board The Southern Spirit in Brisbane and begin your journey southward.


Experience a Whistle Stop Tour to the small coastal village of Byron Bay, the most easterly point of the Australian mainland.


Experience the laid back atmosphere and pristine beaches and take your time to enjoy the Main Street on your own. Rejoin “Southern Spirit” in Casino. (L D)



Day 2  Saturday        Aboard “Southern Spirit”     Port Macquarie


Today, enjoy a Whistle Stop Tour in the historic town of Port Macquarie. Take the opportunity to explore this peaceful town surrounded by green fields and grazing cattle.


Experience New South Wales’ mid north coast on your way south, while enjoying a delicious three course meal in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant with new found friends. (B L D)



Day 3  Sunday              Aboard “Southern Spirit”        Hunter Valley


Start the day with breakfast on board as you travel to the scenic Hunter Valley, one of Australia’s premier wine producing areas. Join your Whistle Stop Tour and experience the tastes of the region as you explore the many highlights. After the delights of the Hunter Valley, rejoin “Southern Spirit” and have the chance to chat and share stories with your fellow travelers. (B L D)  



Day 4  Monday             Aboard “Southern Spirit”          Dubbo


Enjoy the changing landscapes passing by on the path less travelled, as you continue towards Dubbo, nestled in the heart of New South Wales.


Here, enjoy the chance to experience a Whistle Stop Tour to Taronga Western Plains Zoo, one of the world’s finest open range sanctuaries and a vital link in national and international programs for rare and endangered species. (B L D)



Day 5  Tuesday         Aboard “Southern Spirit”    Albury-Wodonga and Melbourne


Continuing southward along The Great Dividing Range, the day’s first stop is the twin cities of Albury-Wodonga on the Murray River. Enjoy a Whistle Stop Tour before rejoining “Southern Spirit” and continuing on to Melbourne.


For those continuing their journey to Adelaide, take the opportunity to leave the train and take in the sights and delights of Southbank or Melbourne City.


Re-board “Southern Spirit” and head west towards Stawell. (B L D)



Day 6  Wednesday     Aboard “Southern Spirit”    The Grampians and Adelaide


Your final day on board “Southern Spirit” begins with a Whistle Stop Tour in the picturesque Grampians. Re-board the train as it winds across the plain, bidding farewell to your fellow travelling companions over lunch as “Southern Spirit” reaches its final destination, Australia’s wine capital, Adelaide.
