KENYA – 14 Day Bird-watching trip 2007

Bird watching is a fascinating hobby and this trip allows you encounter the native species of Africa along with all the migratory birds which can otherwise only be seen at either their summer or wintering grounds. Resident experts will help you to spot and give background details of the lives of these creatures and explain their adaptations for survival.

ITINERARY. Departure is on Sunday 28 January return Saturday 10 February 2007.

Day 1             Outward flight + bird watching Depart Hong Kong on chosen Flight. Arrive Nairobi, Kenya Airport, transfer to the Blue Posts Hotel Nairobi drive around Mount Kenya to start bird watching Stop at Serena Mountain Lodge for lunch The afternoon will be spent birding along the nearby forested trails. Serena Mountain Game Lodge Dinner and overnight at Serena Mountain Lodge.

Day 2        Around Mount Kenya

After breakfast driven from the from Serena Mountain Lodge driving slowly down through a forest rich in birds → Naro Moru River Lodge for lunch → Afternoon walk a shaded riverside trail.

Day 3                         Around Mount Kenya → Lake Nakuru National Park An early breakfast → Nyahururu(2360m)Thomson's Falls taking a short walk → Lake Nakuru National Park→ Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge lunch → Afternoon game and bird watching. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge .

Day 4                         Lake Nakuru National Park We'll spend the day in Lake Nakuru National Park enjoying outstanding game drives & bird walks. Overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge. Flamingoes on Lake Nakuru.

Day 5        Lake Nakuru → Lake Bogoria National Reserve → Lake Baringo After breakfast birding around the lake→0900 drive to Marigat → Kesubo Swamp bird watching → Lake Bogoria Hotel lunch → Lake Bogoria National Reserve game (visit the Hot Springs ) → Lake Baringo Country Club. Dinner and overnight at Lake Baringo Country Club. Day 6                        Lake Baringo Full day we'll visit the Club garden (lakeshore) nearby cliffs and scrub bird viewing. Overnight at Lake Baringo Country Club.

Day 7             Lake Baringo→Kakamega Forest Reserve After breakfast → Kabarnet → Kerio valley birdwatching→lunch picnic in the wooded valley bottom→Kakamega Forest→Birding around Rondo Retreat Center Dinner and overnight in Rondo Retreat Center. Day 8             Kakamega Forest Reserve Full day spend viewing birds at woodland forest.（Isiukhu Trail, Lirhanda Hill and river walks Overnight at Rondo Retreat Center.

Day 9                        Kakamega Forest Reserve→Masai Mara National Reserve After an early breakfast → along the shores of Lake Victoria bird watching →  Masai Mara National Reserve Oloololo Gate → Mara Serena Safari Lodge late lunch → Late afternoon game. Dinner and overnight in Mara Serena Safari Lodger.   Day 10           Masai Mara National Reserve We'll spend the day in the western part of the reserve (Musiara Swamp) game drive and bird watching. Dinner and overnight in Mara Serena Safari Lodger.

Day 11           Masai Mara National Reserve After breakfast → drive through the center of the Masai Mara with lunch box → Keekorok Lodge for 30 minutes bird watching → Masai Mara National Reserve Sekenani Gate → Siana Springs Intrepids dinner → optional night drive Dinner and overnight in Siana Springs Intrepids. Day 12           Masai Mara National Reserve →Lake Naivasha Before breakfast we'll explore a valley near camp.→After breakfast → Narok → Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort lunch → Birding in the grounds of our Resort. Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort.

Day 13           Lake Naivasha → Hell's Gate National Park → Lake Naivasha After breakfast → 2 hour boat trip for bird watching  → after lunch drive south-east → Hell's Gate National Park Elsa Gate → Game and bird watching in Hell's Gate National Park(Buffalo Circuit) → Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort.

Day 14           Lake Naivasha→Nairobi

After breakfast → Nairobi lunch and shopping → 1600 Transfer to the

COSTS                      Costs are all in US$ and valid until February 2007

The price for this is dependant upon getting a group of 8 passengers to undertake the trip and is for shared transportation coasts and twin sharing of accommodation.

Cost is US$ 2,410, per person, NOTE  if there are not 8 travelling then the trip can be run at a higher per person rate or may be cancelled.
