ITALYSorrento and Gulf of Naples

View over the Gulf of Naples

Relax on the beaches or indulge in the Roman culture of this area, close to very well preserved ruins of Pompei.

Day 1             Depart Hong Kong chosen flight to Naples, via London or other European city.

Day 2             Arrive Naples, met at airport and taken to Hotel Corallo. (Pictured left).

The Hotel Corallo, was constructed on the remains of a Romano Ninfeo, near the historical residence of the Cloister of the Old Cappuccini Fathers.

Built in the 1920’s this elegant residential house was transformed into a Hotel, originally called “Hotel Cappuccini”, leaving unalterated the late-liberty style of architecture with many wonderful plaster mouldings and railings, typical of that period.

Soon, it became one of the most ideal meeting points for intellectuals and artists, being then owned by the famous writer Luigi Pirandello, who resided there during the 1930s.

During the following decade, the name was changed into “Hotel Rex” and remained so, until the 1960s, when it was called ”Corallo” after the Coral growing under the waters below.

Seen here from the sea, you can see the terraces where you can sit and watch over the Gulf of Naples as the sailing and passenger ships ply the blue waters of this famous Gulf.

                                                                                                                                        (Terrace room pictured right)

The beaches here are all dark sand from the volcano’s that are quite close, Vesuvius, Stromboli and Etna.

Day 2 to Day 8            At leisure in the Hotel, or we can arrange trips for you to Pompeii and Heraculaneum, to see the fascinating ruins of these two cities that were covered in several metres of volcanic ash in 79 A,D.,  when Vesuvius violently erupted.

They remained covered in ash and perfectly preserved for the intervening centuries, and have only recently been excavated to reveal the wonderfully pristine cities, complete with streets, pavements and villas, with original wall painting and fountains that adorned the ones owned by wealthy merchants or soldiers.

We can also offer a city tour of Naples.  It is the largest port in Italy and has a large traffic of merchandise (petroleum, carbon, cereals) and passengers. It is also a noteworthy nexus of railway and highways and has a large international airport. In the vast urban area one can distinguish many different neighbourhoods: the old center, characterized by buildings closely crowded together, is bordered on the west by the new administrative district and on the east by the business district, into which flows almost all the road and rail traffic. Other neighborhoods, with narrow climbing streets, rise around the base of the San Martino and Capodimonte hills, stretching out to the residential neighborhoods along the Vomero and Posillipo hills.

(Pictured left is the Ducal Palace at Solofra).
