Eastbound or Westbound Rail Tour - RedLeaf or GoldLeaf Service, 8 Days/7 Nights

Nestled between the Coast Mountains and Pacific Ocean, Vancouver offers world-class dining, entertainment and shopping surrounded by beautiful coastline, rainforest, beaches and the rugged mountains of the North Shore. After check-in at your hotel, spend the rest of the day exploring on your own.

 

Admission to Vancouver Lookout atop the Harbour front Centre is included in your package. You can experience 360-degree views of the city, the ocean and the spectacular Coast Mountains. Guided viewing tours are available hourly from the observation deck.

 

Day 1             Arrive Vancouver by air from Hong Kong. Overnight at hotel in Vancouver.

 

Day 2             Vancouver to Kamloops, -  RedLeaf or GoldLeaf Service

 Early transfer to Station.            Check-in opens: 6:30 a.m. Boarding time: 7:30 a.m.

All guests are requested to check in at least 30 minutes prior to the above boarding time at Rocky Mountaineer Vancouver Station.

 

Board the Rocky Mountaineer and feel the excitement as the train pulls out from Rocky Mountaineer Vancouver Station. Pass through the rich farmlands of the Fraser Valley and along the rugged slopes of the Coastal Mountains before entering into spectacular Fraser Canyon. Marvel at the water’s force at Hell’s Gate, the narrowest point of the Fraser River, and watch for the two distinct colours of water  merging at the meeting of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers.   The scenery changes dramatically as you pass into Canada’s desert belt before reaching your overnight destination, Kamloops.

 

 

While onboard the train, relax and enjoy the service excellence provided by your onboard attendant. Delicious chilled breakfast and lunch selections will be served at your seat, and complimentary snacks, tea, coffee and soft drinks are also available throughout the journey.

 

Upon arrival in Kamloops, you are transferred to your accommodation by motorcoach.

 

 

 

The Wildlife.

Day 3 Kamloops to Jasper, - RedLeaf 0r GoldLeaf Service

 

Approximate pick-up time: 7:35 a.m. Boarding time: 8:00 a.m at CN Rail Station, Kamloops.

 Re-board the Rocky Mountaineer and continue north as the train winds between the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains along the course of the North Thompson River. Pass through the Premier Mountain Range, with eleven glacier-topped peaks named after Canada’s early Prime Ministers, and watch out for majestic Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. As you cross the Continental Divide at the Yellowhead Pass you enter spectacular Jasper National Park and approach your final destination, the town of Jasper.

 

Breakfast and lunch are once again served to you at your seat.

Motorcoaches will be standing by to transfer you to your overnight accommodation. Your evening is at leisure to enjoy the town.

 

Day 4 Jasper Sightseeing

 

Enjoy a morning or afternoon tour of Jasper.

Your half-day sightseeing tour will show you the highlights of Jasper by motorcoach. Visit Pyramid and Patricia Lakes, Maligne Canyon, Athabasca viewpoint and the historic Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, before returning to your Jasper accommodation.          

 

You have the rest of the day to spend at leisure.

Day 5      Icefields Parkway Tour from Jasper to Lake Louise

 

Journey along the Icefields Parkway, one of the world’s most scenic highways. As your motorcoach winds south, you visit Sunwapta Falls and Athabasca Falls before reaching the Columbia Icefield, one of the largest accumulations of snow and ice south of the Arctic Circle. Here you have free time for lunch (not included) and also ride a “Snocoach” to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier, a 5 kilometre (3 mile) round trip journey. Your driver/guide explains how glaciers are formed and points out interesting geological features.

 

Continuing south, you pause to view Peyto Lake and Crowfoot Glacier before arriving at your Lake Louise accommodation in the late afternoon.

Day 6 Lake Louise to Banff

After a free morning at spectacular Lake Louise, discover the natural wonders of Yoho National Park in British Columbia.       

 

Depart from the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise at 1:00 p.m. and journey across the Continental Divide to view the Spiral Tunnels, built by the Canadian Pacific Railway to ease the climb over Kicking Horse Pass. Your tour continues to idyllic Emerald Lake and a fascinating natural rock bridge, before returning to Banff National Park.

Continue via the Bow Valley Parkway past Castle Mountain to the townsite of Banff, where your tour concludes on arrival at your accommodation in the late afternoon.

Day 7 Banff to Calgary

Your motorcoach tour of Banff offers insight to the history of Canada’s National Parks, as well as the highlights of the local scenery. Visit the attractions of Bow Falls, Surprise Corner, the Hoodoos, and the Cave & Basin Centre. Also included is the Banff Gondola, an eight-minute gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain for 360-degree views of Banff townsite and its surrounding mountains. A gift shop, restaurant and walking track are located at the top of the mountain.

Following free time for lunch (not included) your tour continues to Calgary, arriving at approximately 5:00 p.m. The evening is free to enjoy the sights and cuisine of the “Stampede City”.

Your package includes admission to the Calgary Tower, where you can experience 360-degree views of the city, mountains and plains. As well as the observation terrace and multimedia display, services available include Tops Grill, Panorama Dining Room and a gift store.

 

Day 8             Calgary to Hong Kong

Transfer to the airport in Calgary for departure to Hong Kong.

 

This is a suggested itinerary; it can be adjusted to include other sites of interest, either near or within the same area, or can be combined with another holiday idea, such as an Alaskan Cruise. It can also be done in the reverse order, starting at Calgary and ending in Vancouver, the trip is essentially the same.
