Pamalican Island – Amanpulo Hotel (So very close to Hong Kong)

This superb island is considered by many to be even more beautiful than those of the Maldives and closer to Hong Kong.

Amanpulo has won the highest accolades from leading travel magazines such as Conde Nast and Tatler (UK). Very recently it was awarded "The Best Small Hotel in the World" (under 60 rooms) by Gallivanter's Guide 2002, and now "Best Remote Escape Resort Hotel" - Harper and Queens 2002

Surrounded by white sand beaches and turquoise waters, Pamilican has a splendid coral reef for diving, only three hundred metres from shore. The whole island is yours, with only 40 ‘Casitas’ or rooms, you can enjoy freedom from interferance.

As you wander or drive (all rooms have their own golf cart type vehicle to drive around the island) you will find little havens of quiet, laid out with hammocks or chairs with cushions and towels. You can be entirely on your own, or join with the others at the pool or beach.

It is a dream location for those wanting to get away from it all for a couple of days. Recreational activities can include swimming, snorkelling, diving, sailing, fishing or boat excursions.

The accommodation, "casitas", are set amongst beachfront vegetation, perched on a hillside, or set between the treetops. Designed as a modern version of the Filipino "bahay kubo" house, all casitas are of the same size and feature a private terrace.

Immerse yourself in luxury on a private tropical island as you lie on its idyllic white sand beach soaking up some sun.  Then be positively spoiled with a gastronomic feast of paella or fideua, especially taught by our Chef from Cataluña and expertly prepared by the Amanpulo Chefs.

The group of islands to which Pamilican belong, have been known to sailors and traders since pre-Spanish times. This is because they lie along the sailing routes from western Luzon to Borneo, Zamboanga and the Sulu Archipelago. Chinese junks and sampans, and Malay praus, also plied these routes for the trade from southern China to Borneo, the Sulu Archipelago and the Spice Islands.

In October 1944, the Japanese Imperial fleet steamed through this region on its way to destroy the U.S. amphibious landing fleet at Leyte. The subsequent annihilation of the Japanese fleet broke the back of the Japanese navy and greatly facilitated the liberation of the Philippines in 1945.

Those living in this region make a living from fishing and seaweed plantation. It is a corner of the Philippines scarcely touched by tourism.
